Volunteer Committees

Susan G. Komen is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to fulfilling our Promise: to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Komen credits its success to the many outstanding volunteers who share their energy, ideas, talents and enthusiasm in the fight against breast cancer.

Komen North Central Alabama offers hundreds of volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Volunteering as a member of one of our committees allows volunteers to stay engaged with our Affiliate and our fight against breast cancer all year round.

Advocacy & Public Policy Committee

Help educate voters, elected officials, and governmental agencies about breast cancer and encourage their active support of our mission. Volunteer opportunities include organizing the annual Advocacy Day, researching the latest breast health policies, contacting elected officials, and assisting with advocacy activities at the Race for the Cure.

Circle of Promise Committee

Help guide our Affiliate’s efforts to address breast cancer disparities in African American communities throughout our service area. Committee activities include planning the annual Promise Luncheon and Circle of Promise Resource Fair, organizing community outreach activities, and acting as peer educators in the community.

Communications Committee

Help provide direction and support for Affiliate communications and the promotion of events, community outreach programs, and Affiliate-funded grants programs. Use your talents to help raise awareness and increase knowledge of breast health and breast cancer among local media, the general public, and other target audiences throughout the Affiliate service area.

Development & Fundraising Committee

Play a key role in helping us raise funds needed to fulfill our promise to end breast cancer forever through donor cultivation, recognition, and relationship building.

Race for the Cure Committee

Ever wanted to be a part of the planning process for everything that happens on Race Day and everything that leads up to it? Well this committee is your chance to do just that! Passionate and dedicated volunteers with a variety of skills are needed each year to make the Race for the Cure a success. Volunteer opportunities include identifying and working with sponsors, distributing event promotional materials throughout the Affiliate service area, cultivating community, corporate and school Race teams, securing and managing refreshments on Race Day, assisting with Race packet preparation and pick-up, coordinating survivor recognition activities, assisting with the management of fundraising activities, overseeing the I Am Komen and Education tents and activities, securing and managing kids’ activities, and assisting with the management of Race Day volunteers.

Science & Education Committee

Help us stay on top of the ever-changing world of breast cancer screening, treatment, and education, while providing guidance on the educational and scientific content of Affiliate programs, materials and messaging. Volunteer opportunities include organizing monthly Lunch & Learns, judging scientific poster contests, representing Komen at meetings and conferences and assisting with the grant review process.

Volunteers & Volunteer Appreciation Committee

Help identify, cultivate and engage members of our community to be Komen North Central Alabama volunteers and make a difference in the lives of women, men, and families throughout Alabama. Volunteer opportunities include recruiting new volunteers throughout the Affiliate’s 38 county service area and assisting with the management of volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

You can also help us show all of our volunteers how much they are appreciated their hard work and dedication. Volunteer opportunities include coordinating volunteer appreciation events throughout the year and the annual Volunteer Appreciation event, managing the Komen Pink Bucks volunteer reward program and assisting with the volunteer recognition award process.

Worship in Pink Committee

Help engage congregations of all faiths to spread life-saving messages about breast health and early detection, while supporting and honoring breast cancer survivors. Volunteer opportunities include researching new groups, contacting congregations with information about the program, packing kits for WIP Weekend and organizing Worship in Pink events.
