Where Your Money Goes
Komen North Central Alabama is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer right here in Alabama. Through events like the Race for the Cure®, we have invested $5.2 million in community breast health programs across our 38 county service area and have contributed over $2 million to breast cancer research through Komen’s National Research Program. Over $15 million has come back into our state in the form of research grants made to researchers at institutions such as the University of Alabama-Birmingham and HudsonAlpha in Huntsville.
Our local Community Grants program is designed to make systemic, lasting change in the communities we serve in Alabama. We are proud to have invested more than $5.2 million locally since 1992. Our funding cycle runs from April 1 – March 31 every year. Click here for more information on our Community Grants program.
In addition to our grantmaking efforts, our Affiliate also implements a number of outreach, educational, support, and assistance programs – such as the Patient Transportation Assistance Program, Worship in Pink, and the Circle of Promise Initiative – from our Komen Community Office in Homewood, AL.
The positive impact of this funding is significant, but it is not enough – as the need in our community continues to grow.
