Let Your Voice Be Heard!
We have a chance to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients in Alabama — but we need your help!
Some cancer patients in Alabama face thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket costs for their orally-administered anti-cancer drugs – significantly higher than their fellow survivors who receive traditional anti-cancer drugs administered intravenously. This extra burden has forced many to make incredibly difficult choices about their treatments and their budgets.
Has this happened to you?
Komen North Central Alabama is fighting to ensure all of our state’s women have access to high-quality care. Treatment decisions should be made between patient and doctor based on what is best for the patient – not on how an insurance company prices it.
The problem is that oral therapies are priced based on an insurance companies’ prescription drug formularies, while a similar therapy administered intravenously is priced under hospital or office care guidelines. The difference can be drastic.
Have you – or someone you know – had a personal experience with this issue?
We’d like to change this situation so that insurance coverage is provided for oral therapies on terms no less favorable than the coverage provided for IV therapies. So, how can you help?
If you have been impacted by this issue, please send your story to Deanna Fowler | Outreach and Grants Manager at dfowler@komenNCalabama.org so we can share it with our lawmakers. Hurry – time is of the essence, and we want to ensure our voices are heard!
